We need to switch to 100% renewables & take energy back into public hands

The Andrews government’s decision to extend the life of brown coal power stations in the Latrobe Valley for 30 years is disastrous for climate action and ultimately disastrous for workers, but great for the fossil fuel bosses’ profits.

The Victorian Socialists recognise that we need serious action to tackle climate change. That means that we need a rapid shift away from fossil fuels. As the climate changes and we experience more droughts and heat waves, the poorest people will suffer the most.
You don’t need to maintain coal fired power stations to keep jobs.

The alternative that Victorian Socialists advocate is to bring the energy industry back into public hands and make the switch to 100% renewable energy. A publicly-owned energy industry could guarantee all of the jobs of the existing workers either in producing renewable energy or else in manufacturing for the renewable energy sector.
