The Socialist Party stands in solidarity with the rebellion in Iran and supports the movement's demands for social justice, an end to economic inequality and oppression, and the overthrow of the Iranian religious state.
The rebellion, sparked by the collapse of the national currency late last year, is facing severe repression.
The death toll is unconfirmed as the government has imposed a near-total internet blackout. But reports emerging from inside hospitals reveal widespread and indiscriminate state violence against protestors - a majority of whom are students, workers and the poor. Current estimates of those killed range from hundreds to potentially thousands.
Yet still, the few images and videos circulating online show ordinary Iranians continuing to take to the streets in defiance of the state’s brutal crackdown.
The Socialist Party also stands resolutely opposed to foreign intervention - namely, attempts by America and Israel to cynically exploit the grassroots, popular uprising to strengthen their imperial domination in the Middle East.
The Iranian people have the right to determine their future - not Western imperialists and their monarchist puppets, nor the Iranian religious state that is currently oppressing and killing them.
