No one should be deprived of good quality housing, access to healthcare, and everything else needed to live a decent life.
Hi I’m Alec. I’m running in this year’s state election as a candidate for Bayswater with Victorian Socialists because I believe in a society that puts people before profit. I'm a local student studying Arabic language at Deakin University.
Capitalism is a disaster. Politicians at all levels of government are in the pockets of the rich, and have grown increasingly out of touch with the people they’re supposed to represent.
It's a crime that in a wealthy society like Australia, 1 in 8 people live below the poverty line. No one should be deprived of good quality housing, access to healthcare, and everything else needed to live a decent life.
The people at the top are seeing their wealth grow year after year, while at the bottom, we are being left behind. To turn this situation around and tackle urgent issues like the housing crisis and the cost of living, I believe we need socialist politics that fights for a more fair and equitable world.
I have been involved in activism in the community since 2021. I helped organise the student movement for Palestine at Deakin University, including the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and against Israel’s barbaric war in Gaza.
I have also been involved in campaigns supporting refugee rights, against racism and the far right, and for climate justice. I believe activism and people power are incredibly important in achieving change.
If elected in November, I’ll be a mouthpiece for all of the struggles against injustice in our society, and fight for the better world that we need and deserve.
