Hi I’m Catherine. I’m running in this year’s state election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe in building a society that is fairer, kinder and more equitable. A society that actually supports people’s needs, not the profits of big corporations and the super-rich.

I’m an East Malvern local and have lived as a renter in the area for five years. I’m currently working in the University sector and am a proud member of the NTEU.

Politicians at all levels of government are in the pockets of the rich, and have grown increasingly out of touch with the people they’re supposed to represent. Today, the people at the top are seeing their wealth grow rapidly, while many at the bottom are being left behind. I’m running in this election because I want to help turn this situation around, and tackle urgent issues like the housing shortage and cost of living crisis.

Everyone in the Southern Metro region deserves better public and community services to live full, happy lives with dignity. But the current privatisation of industries such as education, health and disability or aged care, mean the majority of people are suffering so a handful can rake in the profits.

I became a socialist through the Palestine movement, and have been a community organiser and activist ever since. I’ve been involved in campaigns against the far-right and racism, and to save our public housing. I have been particularly disgusted by the recent savage cuts to the NDIS by the federal Labor government.

I think it’s important to have a socialist voice in parliament because politics is swinging to the right, and Labor, the Liberals or One Nation are not the answer to our problems. I'll fight for our community and a world that working-class people deserve, and I hope you will join the fight as well.
