We need secure housing, strong public schools and healthcare, better public transport and a society that values dignity, cooperation and accountability over private profit.

Hi I’m Gavin. I’m running as the Victorian Socialists candidate for Malvern because I believe politics should put people before profit - and because even in wealthy suburbs plenty of ordinary people are being squeezed while the major parties continue to protect property privilege and corporate power.

I’m a Malvern East local, a renter and a parent of three. I work across AV/technical support, funeral services and transport and I’ve been active as a delegate with the Australian Workers’ Union and the Renters & Housing Union. My politics come less from theory than from lived experience: insecure work, housing pressure and seeing how often people are left to carry the cost of systems designed around profit rather than care.

Malvern is often treated as if everyone here is doing fine. But rising rents and mortgages, underfunded public services, stretched healthcare and planning shaped around speculation rather than human need affect this district too. We need secure housing, strong public schools and healthcare, better public transport and a society that values dignity, cooperation and accountability over private profit.

Outside paid work I’ve also been involved in grassroots community and cultural projects including volunteer run festivals and community spaces. Those experiences reinforced my belief that strong communities and democratic institutions are essential if we want a society that works for everyone.

If you want a voice in Malvern that stands with workers renters and public services, join us.
