Hi, I’m Hera. I’m proud to be the Victorian Socialists candidate for South West Coast in this year’s state election because I believe in a society that’s more sustainable, more equitable, and more just than the capitalist system of today.
I have lived in the public housing system in Warrnambool for my entire life, and have watched as the state government has sold off house after house to the private system, while letting the remaining homes sit empty, rotting, as the wait list gets longer and longer.
Like many here in South West Coast, I rely on the Warrnambool train line, a train line which is the epitome of what’s wrong with our system today. From Kennett’s cuts which saw our trains become the most expensive in the state, to Labor’s modern one-size-fits-all approach which fails to provide trains that are fit for purpose for our community - neither major party has a plan to fix the Warrnambool line.
Only Victorian Socialists has a plan to work towards upgrading our line to 160km/h, which would drastically reduce travel times and increase safety.
I am a proud, active union member in the Retail and Fast Food Workers’ Union and have played a role in organising my workplace for the first time in its history.
I’m a current school student in our public schools, and have led a local student campaign to support our striking teachers throughout their ongoing industrial action. As one of the youngest candidates ever endorsed for parliament, I aim to represent the next generation of young workers.
As residents of an incredibly safe Liberal seat, I think it is important that we have a candidate to represent a working-class left, rather than the Labor Party or the Greens, who fail to put workers first.
South West Coast has been ignored by the major parties for years. If elected in November, I’ll fight to ensure that workers are given the future we deserve.
