Hi, I’m John. I’m a Warrandyte local, a student and a socialist activist. I’m running in this year’s state election as a candidate with Victorian Socialists because I believe that politics is rigged for the rich and that we need a political alternative that puts people before profit.
In Victoria we have a Labor government destroying public housing in a housing crisis and the rise of One Nation who want to blame our problems on migrants. Wealth inequality is at its highest in decades and is still growing quickly. Rather than tackle climate change, Labor, the Liberals and One Nation want to build massive data centres which will destroy the planet.
It’s clear our politicians would rather line the pockets of big business than improve the lives of ordinary people. That’s why Victorian Socialists are running in this election. Because we believe in a world where everyone can access the housing, food, healthcare and education they need to live a comfortable life.
But to get there we need a totally different set of politics to what the major parties offer right now. We want to massively expand public health, housing and education and we want to tax big corporations and the super rich to pay for it. We want higher wages for workers, justice for Aboriginal people and to protect our planet. For years we’ve campaigned for Palestine, to defend public housing, for abortion rights, climate action and against racism and the far right.
These are the issues Victorian Socialists fights for. This election, we want to put those issues, and the socialist solution to them at the heart of the political discussion. Vote 1 Victorian Socialists and we’ll fight for the world that working-class people deserve.
