There’s a wealth transfer happening in Australia today. But instead of that money flowing into the hands of working-class people and our sorely underfunded communities, it’s going to big corporations and the billionaires.

Hi, I’m Kelly. I’m proud to be running as a Victorian Socialists candidate for the upper house in the South East Metro region.

I’m a retail worker and have been a south east Melbourne local my whole life. Growing up in Dandenong and Berwick, and now living in Mulgrave I know first hand that the south east needs a socialist alternative to mainstream politics - an alternative that stands up for the working class, young people and migrants.

There’s a wealth transfer happening in Australia today. But instead of that money flowing into the hands of working-class people and our sorely underfunded communities, it’s going to big corporations and the billionaires. While the wealth of the rich and powerful increases, the rest of us are made to bear the burden of a cost of living crisis with higher bills, higher rents and higher mortgage repayments.

Whether it’s Labor, the Liberals or One Nation - today’s politicians rule for the rich. What we really need is people in parliament who will stand up to the big corporate interests and fight for better wages and working conditions.

I’ll fight to put money back into publicly-run services, not into subsidising profiteering corporations who today run much of our transport, childcare, aged care and many other things. I’ll stand up against the racist scapegoating of migrants, and oppose Australian backing of Israel and the US’s wars in the Middle East. I’ll fight to for more public housing and a freeze on rents - so that just keeping a roof over our heads is no longer such a daily struggle.

I’ve spent years as a community activist, from campaigning for marriage equality, to standing up against racism and the far right, demanding we take real action on climate change, and joining the picket lines of workers fighting for better wages and conditions. During my time at Monash University I helped organise the Gaza solidarity encampment, and I continue to fight for an end to the genocide in Palestine.

If elected in November, I’ll fight for our community and for the better world that we need and deserve.
