I have lived in the western suburbs of Melbourne my entire life, and now reside in Werribee.
Over nine years as a teacher in the west, I've seen too many families doing it tough. I've watched parents make hard sacrifices just to put food on the table, keep the lights on or take their child to see a dentist.
No parent in this country should have to choose between paying the bills and feeding their family. I see it in our public schools too, the lowest funded in the country, because working-class kids have never been a priority for the people in power.
Tarneit, like much of the outer west, has been taken for granted as a safe Labor seat for too long. There's an urgent need for better public transport, affordable housing, and accessible community spaces and services.
As a culturally diverse area, Tarneit also has a part to play in pushing back against the racist and divisive politics spreading across the country. This election is the time to take that stand.
As an active trade unionist, I've worked alongside my colleagues to improve conditions for school staff and students. I'm passionate about fighting for quality healthcare, education, and easy access to essential services for everyone. Victorian Socialists organise workers across industries, building the kind of collective power that takes on bosses and holds the establishment to account.
A vote for me and Victorian Socialists is a vote to prioritise these issues. It's a vote to stamp out racism, build a safer and more inclusive community, and put people before profits.
