Hi, I’m Madilyn. I'm proud to be running as the Victorian Socialists candidate for South Barwon in this November's state election.
I am a mental health worker and social worker who has worked in the public health system for close to twenty years. I am a trade unionist who has served as a union delegate and branch committee member whilst working in the healthcare industry.
I grew up in Geelong, and I moved back to the South Barwon area to raise my two children here. With rapid population growth, our community desperately needs access to more affordable housing, better public transport, more schools and health services. We need publicly run aged care and childcare to ensure the safe and appropriate care of the young and elderly.
I have seen firsthand the failures of the current Labor government to provide adequate funding to the healthcare system. I see my hardworking co-workers try to provide quality care in a dangerously under-resourced health system.
The community deserves so much better. We need more hospital beds, more community services, and increased staffing in healthcare.
As a parent, I can see how hard teachers work. Yet the lack of funding for schools means that kids with additional needs can be left behind. We need smaller class sizes and more schools so that all children can access a decent education.
I became a socialist over twenty years ago through joining the anti-war movement against the Iraq war. I have spent much of my adult life standing up against inequality and injustice.
