In a country as wealthy as Australia, no one should be denied the things we need to live a good life.

Hi, I’m Noah. I’m a local legal assistant and I’m running for Monbulk with the Victorian Socialists.

As a volunteer at the Eastern Community Legal Centre, I saw how our social services are stretched bare and leave the most vulnerable without a safety net. Unhoused people are forced to wait for months or years in a lottery system for affordable housing. Our service was so underfunded that we had to turn away people every day due to a lack of staff able to assist them.

Today the wealth divide is worse than ever: while most of us are struggling to get by, the corporations that our political class rule for are raking it in. This last financial year the big banks reported record profits, while paying little to nothing in tax. Meanwhile, the Labor government has cut funding to public services and allowed the private businesses that run gas and electricity to hike their prices.

We feel this especially in Monbulk, where residents can be left without power for weeks or months in times of emergency, as service providers don’t have the capacity or funding to assist. We can’t continue to accept this.

Our party wants to flip this situation on its head, and give workers more power over politics. In a country as wealthy as Australia, no one should be denied the things we need to live a good life. By taxing the billionaires and big corporations, we can provide adequate funding to our public services, raise living standards and guarantee affordable housing to all.

In parliament, that’s what I’d fight for every day.
