Hi, I’m Oliver. I’m a long-time resident and worker in Geelong, and I’m proud to be running as the Victorian Socialists candidate for Lara in the upcoming state election.
As both a passionate socialist and a member of the working class, I want to see a break with the status quo of capitalist politics which consistently places the goals of billionaires and big business ahead of working-class people.
For too long now, not only Geelong, but the entire western region of Victoria, has not received the investment it requires. This Labor government has presided over unreliable train services, congested roads and buses that simply don't meet the needs of growing communities. At the same time, it has bullied workers in essential industries into accepting inadequate pay deals.
Labor has let Victoria’s public housing system fall into a state of disrepair, and instead of investing what’s needed to upgrade it, proposes to demolish much of it and sell off what remains to the private sector. All the while, people who desperately need this assistance are forced to wait years.
People feel ignored and abandoned by the major parties, and frustration is growing. The far right has capitalised on this and attracted a large portion of disaffected voters, utilising the failures of major parties to popularise their racist, hate-filled brand of politics.
I’m running because I want a Victoria where working people can afford a home, where public services are properly funded, and where regional Victorians aren't treated as an afterthought. I envision a Victoria that values its multiculturalism, and where hate and division are never treated as an acceptable brand of politics.
If I’m elected to parliament, I’ll fight for a future where working-class people have what we need to live a good life, and not struggle everyday just to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table.
