Hi, I’m Reema. I’m a local resident standing for Carrum in the state election.
As the daughter of a single mother, I’m standing because I believe our society should be run in the interests of working-class people—not billionaires, property speculators and corporations that profit while everyone else struggles.
Across Victoria, working people are facing rising rents, wages going backwards and a skyrocketing cost of living, while the richest in the country amass more and more wealth to add to their already enormous fortunes.
This isn’t an accident; it’s the result of political choices made by politicians that put profit before people.
As a socialist, I believe that everyone should have access to secure housing, quality health care and education, and a decent standard of living. We need a movement that fights for working-class people and their rights.
I’m also standing because I refuse to accept the growth of racism and the far right in our communities. Politicians who scapegoat migrants, refugees and minority communities don’t solve the housing crisis, improve wages or strengthen public services—they just divide working people, while those with wealth and power continue to benefit.

That’s why I’m standing: as a part of a party that believes in working people, challenging inequality, opposing racism and the far right, and fighting for a society based on solidarity, equality and justice.
