I believe in fighting for a fair and equal society where us workers call the shots, not the ultra-rich and their out-of-touch political servants.

Hi, I’m Shania. I’m running as the Victorian Socialists candidate for Sydenham in this year’s state election because I believe in fighting for a fair and equal society where us workers call the shots, not the ultra-rich and their out-of-touch political servants.

I’m a train driver for the metropolitan network and a member of the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union. I’ve lived in the western suburbs of Melbourne my whole life and have seen first-hand how years of passivity under Labor have caused a real crisis in the cost of living.

Our for-profit public transport infrastructure which sees train station parking full by 7am and insufficient bus timetabling means we are disproportionately affected by rising fuel costs. Our mortgage repayments are skyrocketing. Local GPs are fully booked and bulk-billing services are disappearing.

Daily life for working-class people just gets more unaffordable. Meanwhile Australia’s 200 richest people last year saw their collective wealth increase by $50,000 per minute. Instead of pointing to the real culprits, the tax-avoiding billionaires who contribute nothing to our society, the politicians scapegoat migrants and refugees.

I am a proud campaigner against racism. in the past few months I have been helping organise our communities to stand against Pauline Hanson and her rancid Islamophobia. I have demonstrated in support of a free Palestine for nearly a decade and staunchly oppose Australia’s backing of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

In the coming months, I will be campaigning against the proposed construction of a mega AI data centre in Plumpton which will cause untold environmental destruction and a severe strain on our electricity and water supplies - all for the profit of global tech companies with long histories of abusing workers’ rights.

I’m running in this election because I think working people deserve more than rising costs and lower standards of living. We have more than enough wealth and resources in Australia for everyone to live a fulfilling and comfortable life. I want to take up a real fight against the cost of living crisis that sees workers getting paid more and increased funding to our local schools and hospitals.

Voting Socialist sends a strong and clear message to the sold-out politicians and their wealthy donors: we want a fighting alternative that puts people before profit.
