Pingers4Parliament – A Socialist Vision for Melbourne

Join your local Victorian Socialists candidates at Twang Brewing to hear about our socialist vision for Melbourne and find out about the campaign to put a socialist in parliament.

At this monthly meetup of the inner Melbourne socialists you’ll hear from your local Victorian Socialists candidates about what a socialist vision for Melbourne would look like, and you’ll find out how to get involved in the campaign to put a socialist in parliament.

Melbourne is rich, but it doesn’t feel like it. We pay extortionate amounts to live in mouldy shoeboxes, while thousands of apartments lie empty. Trams, hospitals and classrooms are overcrowded and underfunded, while big business makes fortunes. It doesn’t have to be this way. We could end homelessness and drive down rents by redistributingempty homes.

We could tax corporations to expand schools and hospitals, and make public transport and childcare free. We could transform the concrete jungle by mandating targets for green roofs, walls, and tree canopy cover.

Come along to hear from your local candidates about this and more:our socialist vision for Melbourne.

FEATURING

Jordan van den Lamb is a housing activist and trouble-maker. You may know him from his website shitrentals.org or his online profile as ‘purplepingers’. For years he has worked to expose the deplorable state of our housing system, earning the ire of Anthony Albanese, property hoarders and the far right.

Omar Hassan is a militant teacher who has been an activist and organiser for over two decades, helping to lead anti-war, refugee, climate, student, Indigenous solidarity, and many other movements. In recent years he’s been a leading member of the Palestine solidarity movement in Melbourne, leading rallies against Israel’s appalling genocide in Gaza.
