Come along to discuss the Labor Party's sabotage of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre, the Greens' inaction and the next steps required to seriously address the statewide health crisis of addiction.
The Medically Supervised Injecting Centre (MSIC) provokes intense debate.
Few people know that the law says only one license can be issued to run an MSIC at any given time, and that MSICs can only be located at the Lennox Street site.
Victorian Socialists think this is legislative sabotage of an important health initiative.
Melbourne CBD, Greater Geelong, Brimbank, and Port Phillip all need their own MSICs. But the law prevents any being built there, and forces all Victorians who use drugs to travel to the Richmond MSIC.
One district cannot be the answer to a statewide public health crisis. Building MSICs where they’re needed, in consultation with residents and experts, would reduce the pressure on Richmond.
