Pingers4Parliament Campaign Launch
Fri 16 Oct @ 7:00 PM
Come along for an inspiring evening to launch Jordan van den Lamb's campaign for parliament! Featuring Jordan and upper house candidate Omar Hassan MC'd by the marvellous Roz Ward.
For years, Jordan van den Lamb (AKA purplepingers) has been exposing how broken our housing system is through his website shitrentals.org – now he’s taking the fight against bad landlords all the way to parliament.
Join us for an inspiring evening MC’d by Safe Schools Co-founder Roz Ward, with music, art and a special live presentation by Jordan about his socialist origin story and his plans for parliament. Also speaking will be Omar Hassan, one of the leading organisers of the Palestine movement and the Victorian Socialists candidate for the Northern Metro.
Grab your ticket today and come along to help us launch our campaign in style!
Please buy a ticket to help us fundraise to put a socialist leaflet in every letterbox in Melbourne. If you can’t afford to pay, there is a free option.
Who is Jordan?
For years, Jordan has been exposing how broken our housing system is through his website shitrentals.org and his work online as 'purplepingers'. He’s visited people living in houses blackened by mould or with exposed asbestos who know that that's just the price you pay to (barely) afford to live near the city. Meanwhile, there are more than enough empty homes across the city to house everyone homeless or in need.
Melbourne is run for the rich. Elections are even rigged in their favour – state law gives businesses and landlords two votes in Melbourne City Council elections, while ordinary people get one. At the same time, bulk-billed medical care has almost disappeared, and public services like cohealth, our museums and the State Library are consistently under attack. Property developers, banks and big corporations make a killing while working-class people are forced to choose between housing, food and healthcare.
It doesn’t have to be like this. It’s a lie that we can’t afford decent housing, a genuine climate transition, or properly funded schools, hospitals and public transport. Jordan will fight to cut politicians’ $200,000-plus salaries and impose real taxes on the super-rich. Instead of pouring resources into jailing the most vulnerable in society and dragging activists through the courts, he would stand up against the real criminals – property hoarders who leave homes empty or lease out unsafe, overpriced rentals.
Jordan is a CPSU delegate and have worked as a public servant in Melbourne for six years. He’s stood with workers and communities against cuts to cohealth and the State Library, supported striking Woolworths warehouse workers, and used his platform to back campaigns to free Palestine, oppose racism, and shut down fossil fuels.
If elected in November, he’ll fight for a city that puts people before profit.
