Sat 28 Feb 2:00 PM

20 Neil St, Sunshine VIC 3020

Come down to hear from your local candidates as we launch our 2026 state election campaign!

Our 2026 state election campaign is under way and this is going to be our biggest campaign yet!

This is your opportunity to meet with our candidates to discuss important local issues and find out how you can get involved. So if this is your first ever Victorian Socialists event, or if you haven’t been to one in a while, make sure this is the one you get to.

Our candidates for Kororoit, Laverton & St Albans will be in attendance, hear more about them below:

Rayan Hassan for Kororoit

“Hi I’m Rayan. I'm running as the Victorian Socialists candidate for Kororoit in this November's state election. I’m a youth worker and I’ve studied, lived, and worked in Melbourne's west for many years.

I’m running in this election because I’m sick of out of touch career politicians who have never had to worry about rent, bills, and the growing hardship in our society making decisions for the rest of us. Melbourne’s west is growing faster than anywhere else in the country, but working-class people are facing a generational collapse in our living standards.

I stand for international solidarity, for refugee rights, and for a world free from oppression and exploitation. A better future won’t be handed to us by those at the top. It will be built by working-people acting together for dignity, equality, and justice.”

Van Thanh Rudd for Laverton

“Hi I’m Van. I’m running in this year’s state election as a candidate for Laverton with Victorian Socialists because I believe in a society that puts people before profit.

I’m a Sunshine local and have lived in the western suburbs of Melbourne for more than 20 years. I’m a public school maintenance worker and a member of the Australian Education Union. I’m also a street artist and political cartoonist.

I’ve been a community organiser and activist for many years. I’m an education union delegate and have been fighting for higher wages and better conditions for public education staff. I’ve been involved in campaigns against racism and I’ve joined protests against factory fires in the western suburbs.

I’m running in this election because I want to shake up the system and flip it the other way round and put people first, not profit.”

Leanna Nguyen for St Albans

“Hi, I’m Leanna. I’m running in this year’s state election as a candidate for St Albans with Victorian Socialists because I believe in a society that’s more sustainable, more equitable, and just than the capitalist system of today.

I’m a St Albans local and have lived in the area my whole life. I’ve seen first hand how our community has been deprived of basic public services.

Working-class people deserve better than this. I’ll fight for price controls on staple goods, lower mortgage rates for working-class households with a new state bank, and caps on rents to make housing affordable.

In this November's state election, I want to give you a real alternative to the major party politicians who will fight for our community and for the better world that we need and deserve.”
